Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler says the final stretch of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season may be exciting for supporters and the media alike but not for coaches because of the tightness of points especially mid table.
Only 10 points separate the side in second and eighth position, there are five points between the team in eighth and the one in 15th place.
After their win against Sekhukhune United in their last outing City are in sixth place with 29 points and Tinkler says he wants to get to the 30-point mark quickly and see how far the Citizens can go. The Citizens face Maritzburg United in the league this weekend with the coach looking for a third successive clean sheet as well.
“The win [against Sekhukhune] obviously distances us from those at the bottom and you know the first target is always to try and hit that 30-point mark as quickly as possible,” said Tinkler.
“Now we are only a point away from that and then from there, it’s onwards and upwards. But if you asked me this question before the previous game I would say ja stress, pressure lots of stress, and a lot of pressure, but you can see what two wins can do. You can shoot up the table.”
“And what’s important now is that we don’t rest on our laurels we keep pushing and we keep working hard. We have got another tough trip away against Maritzburg [United] and we cannot underestimate them. So we need to ensure that we go there and again look to keep that clean sheet first and foremost.”
