Tinkler – We Can Still Achieve This

Sekhukhune United head coach Eric Tinkler remains optimistic that his side can still secure a top-three finish in the Betway Premiership despite recent setbacks.

Babina Noko played a 2-2 draw by AmaZulu FC on Monday afternoon, extending their winless streak to five matches in the league.

Currently sitting in fifth place with 35 points from 23 games, Sekhukhune trail fourth-placed AmaZulu and are just four points behind Kaizer Chiefs, who occupy third position.

However, Chiefs still have two games in hand, making the race for a CAF Confederation Cup spot even more competitive.

“Second half of the season hasn’t been good, be at home or away,” Tinkler admitted.

“We also lost quite a few key players, very important players due to long term injuries.

“A lot of new faces coming in after the CAF break. Still having to reach the level of conditioning that is required because they weren’t regulars where they were playing.

“Second half of the season, truth be told, we haven’t been good enough. I take responsibility for that as the head coach. Gotta find ways to win football matches and we didn’t do that. Be at home or away.

“What’s important now is how we finish. We still got seven games left. And potentially we can still reach our objectives. Top three, that’s been the objective. Still possible.”
