Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Benedict ‘Tso’ Vilakazi believes Deano Van should have rather signed for rivals Kaizer Chiefs, as Bucs are already covered in his position.
Van Rooyen joined the Buccaneers on a three-year deal with a further two-year option from Stellenbosch FC. The 27-year-old spent eight years in the Cape Winelands before his big money move to Mayfair, aiding Stellies to Carling Knockout Cup glory as well as qualifying them for this season’s CAF Confederation Cup competition.

Vilakazi says the former Stellies captain’s acquisition by Pirates shows lack of planning while there is cover already in his position.
“The problem that I’m seeing with teams in South Africa is lack of planning and planning is a very crucial part,” Tso said on iDiski TV.
“Right now, you are signing Deano [but] he didn’t even have pre-season with the team. What are we saying with his shape, his understanding with the team? So, you are going to put him in the team in the league and he doesn’t understand the guys in terms of how they play.
“I love Pirates a lot, but my thinking is that it was going to be better if he went to [Kaizer] Chiefs. There is [Thabiso] Monyane at Pirates who I think is doing very well and this boy [Thabiso] Lebitso. I mean Lebitso alone, no one comes close to him not even Monyane.
“Deano is good in defending; he is good going forward but is he good in delivery when it comes to that bar line where he needs to give a quality cross?
“These are some of the things I check but having Lebitso and Monyane, Monyane is still young he will learn from Lebitso. You don’t have to get another player. That will kill his confidence because for me when you bring Deano obviously when Deano is not playing it’s going to be Lebitso. So where is Monyane going to go?”
