Vilakazi On Kwayiba Miss & State Of Mind After Dropping Pts

Chippa United coach Vusimuzi Vilakazi admits that Sinoxolo Kwayiba should have converted some of the chances created for him, in the side’s 2-2 league draw against relegation-threatened Magesi FC on Sartuday.

The result saw the Chilli Boys in 13th place on the standings with 20 points from 21 outings, two points from danger.

One of Kwayiba’s glaring misses came in the second half when Chippa were leading 2-0 where the former Orlando Pirates striker missed an open net and his coach said he already counted that chance as a goal.

“I also counted the goal knowing him how clinical he is in front of goal,” said Vilakazi.

“So, I counted that as a goal, but it was just not meant to be. But it’s one of those days where one is not at his best in terms of being clinical.

“But he worked very hard. He was giving us a lot today but it’s fine this is water under the bridge and then we’ll see the next game.

The coach felt hard done that his side let their lead slip out of their hands, questioning his players’ mental toughness to be unable to protect the lead.

“It could have been better,” added Vilakazi.

“I think we had to dig deep in terms of making sure that we are victorious on the day.

“But I question maybe the psychological aspect in our players where we need to be strong and soldier on and protect what we have. We failed to do that, but I think it’s work in progress because we have to lift our heads for the next coming game.

“Last game we conceded three goals and this time we concede two. It simply means in the past games where we had six clean sheets, so we have to go back now and align our defensive structure and also our offensive structure.

“Unfortunately, it’s a short blanket where you need to balance both. But there’s nothing we can do except to go back and rectify few areas of our game.”
