Kaizer Chiefs teenage sensation Mfundo ‘Obrigado’ Vilakazi has named eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi as his football hero and revealed his goals in the beautiful game.
Vilakazi, 17, is one of four young South African talents, who have joined the PUMA family – the others being Luke Baartman, Shandre Campbell and Emile Witbooi.
The attacking midfielder has been called up to Chiefs first team and impressed during the Carling Black Label Cup, scoring in the win over Stellenbosch FC to lift the trophy with the PSL All Stars.
He has made the Chiefs squad for the first time last weekend, but remained an unused substitute in the goalless draw with Royal AM. But getting more game-time at Amakhosi is one of the youngsters target.
“Firstly, I’d like to get game minutes under my belt with the first team and then make sure I deliver performances that warrant an overseas opportunity in the future,” he told PUMA in a Q&A.
The left-footed starlet has also revealed that he looks up to another famous left-footer in superstar Lionel Messi.
“Messi. His achievements speak for him,” Obrigado stated when quizzed about his hero.
“He’s also a great leader with his life anchored by his family and football.”
Vilakazi and the other three SA starlets have joined the likes of Neymar, Kai Havertz, Themba Zwane and Teboho Mokoena, among others in the PUMA family, and the Chiefs attacking midfielder also revealed which he’s currently wearing.
“PUMA Future 7 Ultimate. They are very light, comfortable, and made for creative players like me,” he added.
