Were Chiefs Robbed Of Late Penalty? Hlungwani Explains

Kaizer Chiefs were incorrectly denied a penalty in their stalemate against Polokwane City at the weekend, according to former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani.

Amakhosi were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Rise and Shine at FNB Stadium in their final match of the season thus losing out on making it into the top eight for the second season running.

Speaking on Soccerzone, ‘The Principal’ was critical of the referee for not awarding a spot kick to Amakhosi as it was a foul from behind on Mfundo Vilakazi in the penalty area.

“We see Vilakazi getting into the box and Matodzi is behind,” he said.

“He’s behind and there’s contact there on the line. There’s a second contact there on the bum with a push with the leg with the knee, so that made Vilakazi to fall.

“An offence has been committed in the penalty area for which a penalty should’ve been awarded.

“So, here incorrect decision! A penalty should’ve been awarded for Mfundo Vilakazi.”
