Referee Michael Mosemeng’s decision to award Mamelodi Sundowns a penalty against Stellenbosch FC was the correct call, according to former PSL official Victor Hlungwani.
Opposition fans were up in arms after Peter Shalulile appeared to have been fouled outside the 18-yard area which saw the champions being awarded a spot kick which was tucked away by the Namibian captain himself for his record 130th PSL goal.
Dissecting the incident on Soccerzone, “The Prinicipal” said it was indeed a spot on call from Mosemeng in giving the penalty instead of a foul outside the area.
“The law says when holding starts outside the penalty area and continues inside, the referee must award a penalty,” he said.
“You see the referee Michael Mosemeng awarding a penalty. It’s on the line [the foul] almost inside with holding that started outside and continued inside.

“So, the referee was correct. Inside the penalty area [foul].
“Therefore, correct decision by the referee to award a penalty.”
