Why Seema Is Surprised Despite Sekhukhune In Fourth

Sekhukhune United head coach Lehlohonolo Seema admits they thought they would be higher than fourth by the end of 2024.

Seema’s side secured a major three points with the 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants to move them to 16 points after nine games and in fourth place.

And it was back-to-back wins, as Keletso Makgalwa’s debut season continued to impress at Babina Noko with another goal – as an inspired off-season signing from Upington City.

“We always aim higher, I thought we’d be higher than this, we lost against Royal AM, Galaxy and Sundowns, it’s where we had a bit of a slump,” he said when asked by iDiski Times about their league position to end 2024.

“But the good thing is we recovered quickly, we didn’t stay there for long, and we won against Cape Town City. So I’m happy with where we are at the moment but if you asked me when the season started, after nine games, would you take 16 points?

“I wouldn’t be sure if we’d get there, but here we are, we’re happy. Credit must go to the team, the guys have worked very hard, the support from management, the Chairman, Mr Malatji and the CEO, Jonas – they have really supported us, and we really appreciate it.

“The support from the stands, also you guys, the media supporting us, making sure you are here, trying to give the message to the masses.”

On the targets for 2025, with the club solely focused on the league and Nedbank Cup, having been knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup before the group stages, Seema refused to be drawn into such talk yet.

“In January there’s a lot of games for us, a lot of travelling, maybe after January you can ask that type of question of our ambitions, when we can see where we are then,” he said.

“At the moment it’s still long away, we haven’t even played ten league games, it’s too early to speak about the rest of the season.”
