Wrong Call? Chiefs Player Should’ve Seen Red – Hlungwani

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa should’ve been sent for an early shower in their Betway Premiership clash against Stellenbosch FC, according to former PSL referee Victor Hlungwani.

Amakhosi rallied from a goal down to narrowly beat Stellenbosch FC 2-1 at FNB Stadium courtesy of Wandile Duba’s brace after the Cape Winelands outfit had taken the lead through Khomotjo Lekoloane.

Hlungwani dissected the incident that caught the attention when Mthethwa’s boot met Sihle Nduli’s face, saying that Mthethwa should’ve been shown a red card for brutality against an opponent.

Speaking on SABC Sport’s Soccerzone on Monday evening, ‘The Principal’ said the Chiefs midfielder had no intention of playing the ball and should thus have been shown his marching orders.

“You will see Mthethwa here using what we call foot on the face,” Hlungwani said on Soccerzone.

“I don’t know what he was thinking. That is red card! This is serious foul play. Endangering the safety of an opponent.

“The player must be sent off. This is brutality.
