You Can’t Dribble For The Fun Of It – Khanye

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says South African players need to learn that they can’t just dribble for the sake of it.

Khanye was making reference to Marumo Gallants winger Msindisi Kunene’s failed show boating that resulted in his side conceding a second goal against Mamelodi Sundowns in the league on Tuesday.

The incident happened when the game was locked at 1-1 in the second half where Kunene’s skills saw him lose the ball to Teboho Mokoena who punished him and Gallants by scoring Sundowns’ second.

Mokoena went on to score the third goal late in the game to see Sundowns at the summit of the log with a two-point lead from their closest rivals Orlando Pirates.

Khanye said players need to learn to dribble with a purpose as the stakes in professional football are a lot higher.

“Kunene and these other players need to learn that that’s not dribbling,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“To dribble is to eliminate someone. I don’t have a problem if you do this while you are leading by 11 goals.

“We need to emphasize this to South African players that the likes of [Lionel] Messi and Neymar when they dribble, they drop a shoulder and then pass. Create something out of nothing in order for us to get a goal.

“Now you lose the ball with that Rachat and I don’t think supporters are going to come and say sorry for you. You can do that in kasi football but here unfortunately they are playing for R15m.

“Yes, we have to enjoy the game, but the boy tried a Rachat, the ball fell to his weaker foot and he lost it in front of very intelligent players who then went direct.”
