Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef has heaped huge praise on young defender Aden McCarthy after an outstanding performance against Stellenbosch FC in their opening Betway Premiership match.
McCarthy has been closer to joining the Chiefs senior side, as at the beginning of last season, he trained with the side but was deemed not ready and was sent back to the reserve side, where he helped Chiefs to win their first-ever DStv Diski Challenge league title.
Amakhosi assistant coach Ben Youssef praised the club’s development coaches, stating that they’ve prepared McCarthy well and that he has grown immensely since the beginning of last season also mentioning that McCarthy was one of the best players in camp.
“Aden, he was with us last season in the training. We have to say thank you also to our coach for the DDC, they prepare them for us,” he told the media.
“We keep in contact every time to discuss about the availability of the players, if they can help us, or if they are ready or not? I think Aden was with us when we started the league. Then his performance. He was not very good last season, but we discussed with him, and I have to say thank you to him.
“He keeps working, and he finished with the season with us. He played the last two games, I think, and in the camp, he was one of the best players for us. So like I said, he deserved to play, and we don’t give him a gift.
“His performance allowed him to play for the team.”
