Zungu Breaks Silence On Vilakazi’s Shock AmaZulu Exit

AmaZulu FC Chairman Sandile Zungu has broken his silence on co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s abrupt departure from the club having worked closely with Arthur Zwane.

‘Kanu’ tendered his resignation at Usuthu on Monday, citing personal issues that are distracting him from doing his job at the club, bringing to an end a stint that began in October 2024 when they took over the hotseat after Pablo Franco Martin was given the boot.

Vilakazi was promoted to the first team after being in charge of AmaZulu’s DStv Diski Challenge squad having left Richards Bay.

Zungu opened up that they gave Vilakazi his blessings by accepting his resignation letter after he disclosed that there were personal issues he wished to deal with.

“He told us as Usuthu management that he’s facing issues that he felt were distracting his job and asked to be relieved of his duties so he could deal with this and become a better person and also for the club not to be affected,” Zungu said on Prime Time Sports with Victor Molefe on Ukhozi FM, as translated from isiZulu.

“We then had meetings and decided to accept his request to step down. So, we wish him well in dealing with these demons so he can be better.

“We appreciate his commendable work at Usuthu, particularly his excellent collaboration with Arthur Zwane.

“We’re not complaining about anything, but these issues were going to distract him from his work.”

During his co-coaching with ‘Mangethe’, the duo has managed to move AmaZulu from the relegation scrambles into sixth spot.
