Zwane Breaks Silence After Fan Incident

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has sent a message to the club’s fans after the ugly scenes at Royal Bafokeng Stadium last weekend.

A section of supporters expressed their disappointment with Chiefs’ 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United, which ended the club’s hopes of qualifying for a CAF inter-club competition next season, by throwing objects at some of the players and the coach.

Zwane, who had to be escorted off the pitch, was hurt in the process, with the club confirming a police shield accidentally hit him near the eye, which caused him to miss post-match duties.

The club has since released a statement, condemning the actions of the supporters, saying it was “unacceptable and cannot be tolerated“.

Zwane himself, who has recovered and will be fit to sit on the bench in Chiefs’ final game of the season against Cape Town City, has now sent a message to the club’s faithful, stating he understands their frustrations but better days will soon come.

“I’ve seen them supporting the team through thick and thin,” he told the club’s media team, when asked about the section of supporters who are disappointed and frustrated.

“I’ve seen them supporting the team, even when things were not going our way.

“I know how they want things to improve in the squad, we’re also worried about the situation because we thought we could make the situation better, even far better.

“When you’re in a phase that we’re in, you’ll always have those hiccups and challenges here and there.

“But they are always on our thoughts, we always want to make them happy and most definitely the time will come when they will be happy.

“When they are happy and smiling like others, they will forget about days like this.”

Chiefs host City at FNB Stadium at 15:00 on Saturday. The Citizens are currently two points behind Amakhosi on the log, but could overtake them in fourth place should they collect a win.
