Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has praised Itumeleng Khune for his performance against Golden Arrows on Saturday.
The Amakhosi beat Golden Arrows 2-0 on Saturday thanks to first-half goals by Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana and Edmilson Dove.
The win saw Chiefs retain their fourth place on the log, seven points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who also have a game in hand.
Zwane was pleased to get the three points against a resilient Arrows side and picked out Itumeleng Khune for special praise.
“Again you could see, first 10 minutes [we were] a little bit sleepy, they got their first chance,” he told SuperSport TV after the match.
“But in terms of the structure we were ok, more especially in possession of the ball. But we could’ve been better in terms of getting into the final third with aggression.
“I always say when you play a team like Arrows, they are comfortable on the ball, once you allow them time and space on the ball, they are going to use it to hurt you.
“So we wanted to put them under pressure and also produce those pressing traps, not to allow them to come inside, because we knew they would overload.
“We wanted to kill the game early because we knew, to push Reeve forward as well, to force Sibiya to defend deep, either Sibiya or Mmodi to get tired.
“As soon as we get a goal we can sit a little bit and wait for the right moment to kill the game off. We managed to get it from a dead ball situation which we had too many that we could’ve capitalised on in the first half of second half.
“But they also had their chances and Itu was at his best today and that’s how you should lead the team – you should lead by example, his experience counts a lot.
“He gives the boys that courage and belief to [not] worry as well, if you remember we’ve been conceding goals that we shouldn’t have and the good thing today was we kept a clean sheet.
“So we just want to build on that going forward so that we keep those clean sheets.”
