An hour after lifting the Bundesliga title in dramatic fashion they have sacked their CEO Oliver Khan and Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic with immediate effect.
Bayern Munich secured their 11th successive Bundesliga title in dramatic fashion after overtaking Borussia Dortmund on the final day of the season.
While Bayern did their homework and beat Cologne thanks to a 89th minute winner by Jamal Musiala, Dortmund – who just needed a win at home – dropped two points against Mainz 05.
As a consequence, Bayern beat Dortmund based on goal difference after both finished on 71 points.
However, just an hour after securing the title, Bayern sent shockwaves through German football after announcing the departure of Kahn and Salihamidzic.
“Oliver Kahn is no longer CEO of FC Bayern München AG. Hasan Salihamidžić will also be replaced as board member for sport,” the club said via a brief statement.
“This was decided by the club’s supervisory board. Kahn will be replaced by the current vice-chairman of the board Jan-Christian Dreesen. Salihamidžić’s successor is still to be decided.”
Bayern president Herbert Hainer said: “The decision to part with Oliver Kahn was anything but easy for the supervisory board. Nevertheless, due to the overall development, we have come to the decision to make a new appointment at the top of the executive board. We would like to thank Oliver Kahn for his commitment, his ideas and for everything we have achieved together. He will always remain a great figure at FC Bayern. We wish him all the best for his future.”
Despite all the drama around it, Bayern celebrated their 11th successive Bundesliga title.
