Ahly Director Questions Fans On Pitso

Al Ahly director of football Sayed Abdel-Hafiz says head coach Pitso Mosimane is not getting enough credit for his achievements at the club.

The three-time CAF Champions League-winning coach came under slight criticism from sections of supporters and former players recently despite winning the Cairo Derby 5-3 and maintaining his unbeaten record in the fixture.

Suggestions were made that he failed to secure a record victory over the White Knights when the chance presented itself with the scoreline 5-1 at one point and the biggest victory standing at 6-1, which was achieved two decades ago.

Added to that, Mosimane came under pressure in the media for losing out to the 2020/21 Egyptian Premier League title and Egypt Super Cup to Zamalek and El-Gaish respectively.

But Abdel-Hafiz feels he’s been excellent and holds the support and backing of the club’s hierarchy since replacing Rene Weiler at the record 10-time African champions.

โ€œA good thing about Al Ahly fans is that they always want more, you score five goals and they want you to score more,โ€ Abdel-Hafiz said, as per KingFut.

โ€œPitso isnโ€™t getting the credit he deserves. We accept criticism but he hasnโ€™t lost a single big game so far.

โ€œMosimane didnโ€™t ask the players to play defensively against Zamalek, he even encouraged them to score more in the second half.

โ€œWhen a manager win three CAF Champions League titles it canโ€™t be a coincidence, he led Al Ahly in 16 continental games, of which he lost only one. Heโ€™s played against Zamalek four games of which he won three and drew in one.

โ€œMahmoud El-Khatib [club president] chose Mosimane because he has a project and sacking him was not even considered.โ€

Mosimane and his troops return to league action next week against Al Mokalwoon on Friday evening at the Al Ahly Stadium in Al Salam City (20h00)
