Al Ahly Book CAFCL Final Spot, Help Sundowns

Record champions Al Ahly have booked their spot in this year’s CAF Champions League final after beating TP Mazembe 2-0 on aggregate, with their win meaning Mamelodi Sundowns qualified for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

Al Ahly became the first side in history to qualify for five successive CAFCL final after beating Mazembe 2-0 in Cairo on Friday night.

The visitors had the ball in the back of the net after 60 minutes but it was ruled out by VAR.

Just minutes later, the home side, which had Percy Tau in the starting XI, opened the scoreline via Mohamed Abdelmonem.

Al Ahly made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute via Wessam Abou Ali to leave no doubt on the score, as Mazembe now needed to score two.

The hosts put the icing on the cake when Akram Tawfik made it 3-0 in the 12th minute of injury-time.

Mazembe exit from the CAF Champions League means that Sundowns have qualified for the FIFA Club World Cup via the ranking pathway, as the Congolese giants now cannot overtake the reigning PSL champions anymore.

Meanwhile, Al Ahly will compete in their 17th CAF Champions League final and became the first side to qualify for five finals in a row.

They will now face ES Tunis in an North-African final after Taraj knocked out PSL giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the other semi-final.
