AmaZulu have confirmed that fans will allowed in the stands for a first time of their inaugural CAF Champions League campaign and Benni McCarthy confirmed he’s readying himself for someone shouting ‘voetsek’ to him.
Usuthu will host Raja Casablanca at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday evening, hoping to make it three home wins in Group B of the CAF Champions League.
After beating Horoya and ES Setif at home, Benni McCarthy’s men currently sit on six points, while Raja have collected nine already.
A win in South Africa would see the Moroccan giants secure their ticket for the knockout stages of the competition and leave AmaZulu on the brink of elimination.
However, a win by the home team would push the group wide open and set up fireworks for the final day of the group stage campaign.
AmaZulu will be boosted by the fact that they can welcome fans at the stadium, confirming that tickets are available for vaccinated supporters.
“I’m just over the moon, I’m so happy for the fans because I think hey deserve it, they’ve been extremely patient to get to football matches,” he said on Thursday.
“Even the media also, the zoom nonsense is not working for me, having to talk to a screen, I prefer the face-to-face, I like body contact and seeing people.
“That is going to be exceptionally nice, seeing people and I don’t know how I’m going to be handling someone shouting ‘hey, wena voetsek man’. The fans get impatient, and all kinds. I have not heard that since I joined AmaZulu, so it’s going to take some adjusting.
“I think we’re just happy to have you guys back at the stadium and it will also give the fans a morale booster because they want to show their talent to the fans. They entertain us and at the moment we entertain empty seats and the echos and all that, [everyone can hear] the shouting of the coaches.
“They just want to showcase their talent and show the people what they are all about, have the fans cheering for you, I’m looking forward to that.”
