The Confederation of African Football has confirmed the prize money of this year’s CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup – here is how much Mamelodi Sundowns could earn and how much Marumo Gallants have pocketed already.
CAF confirmed that president Patrice Motsepe has stuck to his promise of a “new prize money structure”, which resulted in a 40% percent increase.
“Earlier this year, CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe announced a new prize money structure for TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.
“The announcement saw prize monies for the two competition increase by 40% – in line with Dr Motsepe’s commitment to make African football competitions globally competitive and self-sustaining.
“In the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, the winner will get USD 4 000 000 – an increase from the USD 2 500 000. In the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, the prize money for the winner has increased from USD 1,250,000 to USD 2 000 000.”
As a consequence, Sundowns have secured $1.2 million (R23 million) already but that amount could more than triple to $4 million (R77 million) should they mange to lift the trophy.

Gallants, meanwhile, secured $750,000 (R14.5 million) for their historic run into the CAF Confederations Cup semi-final.
