Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed his confidence in his side’s players’, saying they’re up to test knowing they need to win.
Sundowns are facing Rulani Mokwena’s MC Alger under massive pressure, as they must win their final group stage match in order to make the knockouts.
The last time Sundowns failed to progress to the CAFCL knockout stages was in 2018 when they finished in third place after failing to beat Horoya AC in the last game in Pretoria.
They find themselves in a similar situation this time around where anything less than a victory against MC Alger would see them being eliminated from the competition. Cardoso’s side currently sitting in third place with six points after five matches, two behind Alger with eight points.

Cardoso explained that they know what is at stake and they prepared to fight until the last minute. The Portuguese mentor also mentioned that they prepared for different scenarios.
“Well, last match, Champions League group stage important match, whether there’s a result to shift, obviously consequence of our campaign, we arrive on the last match with the obligation to win, but with an open scenario that we fight for,” Cardoso told the media.
“Preparation has been normal, no expected last moment issues or losses. So availability is as we predicted.
“We approach the game in the field the way we think we have to do, obviously preparing different scenarios that can happen throughout the match. Our intention is very clear, our demand is also very clear.
“We are up to the test, and that’s what we’re gonna do from the first minute up to the last one for sure.”
