Esperance Coach Hints At ‘Special Plan’ Vs Downs

Esperance Sportive de Tunis head coach Miguel Cardoso has insisted his side have worked out a plan to counter the threats Mamelodi Sundowns will pose in their CAF Champions League semi-final first leg.

The four-time champions could reach their ninth final, a feat they last achieved in 2019, when they successfully defended their title.

However, they will face African Football League champions Sundowns, who have only conceded one goal in this year’s competitions so far. In fact, both Sundowns ES Tunis have kept nine clean sheets in 10 CAFCL games this campaign.

Cardoso believes his team is ready for the big occasion and have prepared well for the South African giants.

“We’ve come a long way to get here, and now it’s the moment of truth,” the Portuguese tactician said in his pre-match presser.

“It’s an important meeting for the club, and it is our duty, players, staff and public, to be present and give everything.

“It’s simple, every coach and every player dreams of playing such a match in their career. It’s good to be there, but the most important thing is to succeed and take this step.

“Tomorrow at match time, we will be ready, that’s for sure. We have a plan in place to counter the opponent and to develop our game. The team has a good mindset and is prepared to excel.”

Cardoso also believes that small details between both sides will decide on who will book their ticket for the final.

“We will be playing against one of the four best African teams this year, the result is therefore unpredictable at the end. Maybe it will all come down to a small detail,” he added.

“It will be a match different from all the ones we have played so far. It’s up to us to show what we are really worth.

“What we are looking for, obviously, is to be the best on complete both matches to advance to the final.”
