Jwaneng Galaxy and Orlando Pirates confirmed their starting lineups for this afternoon’s TotalEnergies CAF Champions League qualification first-leg at Gaborone National Stadium
Galaxy, who are led by South African coach Morena Ramoreboli, have a chance to make it to the group stages of the CAF Champions League for the second time in three seasons. The Botswana champions knocked out Ugandan side Vipers to reach this stage of the competition.
Ramoreboli, who won the Cosafa Cup with South Africa in 2019, was also the head coach of Maluti FET College when they shocked the Buccaneers back in the 2012/13 season in the Nedbank Cup round of 32.
Pirates, who returned to the tournament for the first time in four years, knocked out Comoros side Djabal FC 4-0 on aggregate.
The in-form Zakhele Lepasa has been the main talking point for Jose Riveiro’s side after netting 10 goals already this season in all competitions. The 26-year-old was expected to carry Pirates to the group stages of the tournament, but has been rested for this game with Riveiro making a number of changes to his regular selection.
These two sides are facing each other for the third time. In 2021 Pirates beat Galaxy both home and away in the CAF Confederations Cup. In fact, in six previous games, Pirates have never lost to a team from Botswana in CAF competitions.
