‘I Had No Fear Chiefs Would Win CAFCL’

Moeneeb Josephs has revealed he never feared Kaizer Chiefs could win the CAF Champions League, which would have ‘relegated’ AmaZulu to the CAF Confederations Cup.

The Usuthu goalkeeper coach saw his side book their ticket for the group stages of this year’s CAF Champions League after eliminating five-time winners TP Mazembe on the away goal rule.

However, AmaZulu were at risk of not even making it into this year’s elite club competition in Africa, had Amakhosi beaten Al Ahly in the final.

Josephs, though, has insisted he never had any doubts that Pitso Mosimane’s side would get the better of the Glamour Boys.

“I’m gonna be honest with you. I come from Orlando Pirates, so I have no interest in case of Chiefs whatsoever,” he told iDiski Times’ David Kappel.

“I wasn’t even interested in them in the final, I had no interest. So obviously Al Ahly is my team that I support in Africa, that’s my ultimate team I support in Africa and with coach Pitso Mosimane there, it’s just a match made in heaven.

“So for me Kaizer Chiefs stood no chance, I had no, no doubt that they would even come close to knocking us out of the Champions League. There was no chance of them doing it.

“With Kaizer Chiefs I have no interest whatsoever. I’ve never had a fear in my heart! Because as a former Orlando Pirates player, you feel no pity for Chiefs. Nothing whatsoever!

“That’s just the way it is and that’s the way we were viewing it when we were at Orlando Pirates, we are Orlando Pirates guys, we don’t mix with Chiefs, doesn’t happen.

“So that’s how we keep that old traditions going. So I absolutely had no fear that Kaizer Chiefs was gonna do absolutely nothing. I think we (AmaZulu) did all the hard yards to get in that position.

“And fortunately they came up against one of the African giants coached by one of the giant coaches in Africa, Pitso Mosimane, so there was no fear whatsoever.”
