Khanye Makes Jali Claim

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has explained why he believes Andile Jali should take some blame for Mamelodi Sundowns’ CAF Champions League semi-final exit.

The South African champions drew 2-2 with Wydad Athletic Club in the second leg of their semi-final at Loftus Versfeld Stadium this past weekend, which saw them eliminated from the competition on away goals.

Khanye emphasises that coach Rulani Mokwena, who is in charge of the team for the first time as a head coach, will learn from this experience because Masandawana needed more experience on the pitch.

In addition, Khanye also discussed that Jali, who is an outspoken fan of, should question his own antics that led him being out of the squad, when the side needed him at this crucial stage of the season.

“Like it or not, situations like these do search the coach for answers. His players are good but experience is needed in this cup,” said Khanye on iDiskiTV.

“This cup needs a balance of quality-experienced players and quality-youngsters. When I say youngsters I’m not referring to just ordinary players, I mean a bunch of quality youngsters and an experienced coach.

“Rulani is a very good coach but, at this tournament, I’m sure he’s going to graduate. He is very talented.

“The other thing, they need to learn before they take decisions on players and I’m not going to mention names, especially quality players, they need this trophy and they can take decisions after this tournament.

“I’m not promoting anyone but players need to be disciplined. I mean there are players who have cost the team by doing other things.

“You know I like Andile [Jali] and in as much as I like him he should take some blame. He should look at himself and ask himself ‘wouldn’t I have helped, if I was available’.

“Truly speaking Sundowns needed him but he should look at himself and say ‘I cost the team’ because if he was there, I’m sure they would have picked him. So the team must learn. They needed a full squad.”
