Lakay Sends Al Ahly Warning

Mamelodi Sundowns left-back Lyle Lakay has sent a warning to the CAF Champions League reigning champions Al Ahly ahead of their clash next week.

The free-kick taker specialist saw his side collect three points in the group stage opener after they edged Al-Hilal 1-0 at Royal Bafokeng Stadium last week, Friday.

Masandawana are already in Egypt where they will face Al-Merrikh on Saturday, before they lock horns with the African Champions next week Friday in a very much anticipated match on the continent.

Speaking from Egypt, Lakay said he is anticipating a very tough match against the Red Devils, and admitted they will respect them, but there will be no soft treatment when the battle starts in the field – he insited the focus is on Al-Merrikh at the moment.

“Preparations are good, everything is going well, we came here to win the two games that we play in Egypt, and we do have to focus on that,” he told Thomas Mlambo on Ultimate Sports Show.

“For us, we take each game at a time, we’re not looking obviously ahead to the Al Ahly game, like I said, we came here to win both games.

“We won last week, we started the group off well, and I think if we can win these two games in Egypt, we know it will be easy to qualify to the knockout round.

“Now we focus on Al-merrikh game and thereafter, we will look at the Ahly game, and we have to respect them (Al Ahly) they are the reigning champions, but at the end of the day, we treat them same way we treat Al-Merrikh and any other game,

“Obviously, we have to respect them they are the reigning champions like I said, they flew into the Club World Cup, but having said that, I think we came here to win, we respect them, but obviously, we are going all out to get the three points and that will put us in a better position in the group.”
