Maluleka’s opener helped Downs to secure a 3-0 win over Al Merrikh, finishing their CAF Champions League group stage with 16 out of a possible 18 points.
After the match, Maluleka was visibly emotional and excited by his achievement.
“I’m lost for words,” he told the club’s media team.
“I’m happy, I’m very, very happy. Relieved, excited for what’s coming up.
“But I’m just happy we got a positive result today out of everything.
“We played well, we could still improve our performance.”
Maluleka says he hopes he’s done enough to impress the coaches for more game time.
“I played today and we got a positive result,” he added.
“I hope I played good but I still think there is a lot to improve on.
“It’s a very special day, it’s my first goal for Mamelodi Sundowns. This one is going in my archives, for sure.
“What a way to come back, you come back and score a goal and the team wins.”
