Monyane Makes Big Pirates-CAFCL Claim

Orlando Pirates right-wing-back Thabiso Monyane has made a bold claim that he will not leave the side until they win their second CAF Champions League title.

Pirates have won Africa’s premier club competition once and have come close in past seasons, however recently the side exited the tournament as early as the preliminary rounds. The Buccaneers have once again qualified for the Champions League after finishing the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season in second place.

The former South African junior international spoke to iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition (156) of the newspaper, where he said it’s his personal goal to help the side get the second star, and the players’ responsibility to not only qualify for the competition but to do well too.

“Pirates is a big team and like we said ourselves at the beginning of the season that Pirates deserves and must be playing in the Champions League year in, year out,” Monyane told IDiski Times.

“And it’s our responsibility as players to work hard to actually make that happen so that Pirates can be able to compete for that second star. That’s one of the biggest objectives that I myself also have as an individual.

“I don’t see myself leaving this club without getting that second star. That’s one of my biggest goals as an individual and as a footballer of Orlando Pirates football club.”
