Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Thlopie Motsepe says the club will forever be grateful to the coaches and players who won the 2016 CAF Champions League.
Sundowns have ended the era of 2016 CAF Champions League coaches after Manqoba Mngqithi and Wendell Robinson’s era ended at the club.
The two were the only members left from the technical team that won the only Champions League for Sundowns eight years ago, Motsepe explained that they would forever cherish and celebrate those coaches and players.
“This now marks a change in that Champions League setup, we must never be a slave to our history, we need to celebrate it, and we need to make sure that it is something that drives us forward as a football club,” he said.
“We have 54 years of heritage and existence we always have to keep striving for growth and adapt and find new ways to achieve our dreams and desires.
“We will forever hold all the players and coaches that were part of that special moment in the club’s history [winning the 2016 CAF Champions League].
“But we made this decision based on that need to change and redirect the focus, no longer looking at the past but looking forward and using the past as the motivator.”
