Pitso – Chiefs Are Bigger Than Downs
Pitso Mosimane has commented on facing Kaizer Chiefs in the CAF Champions League final.
The South African coach set up a final against Amakhosi after leading Al Ahly to a comfortable 3-0 second-leg victory over Esperance to advance 4-0 on aggregate.
The defending champions have booked their second successive final and will now face Chiefs, who will take part in their first ever CAFCL final.
“Kaizer Chiefs are one of the bigger teams in South Africa. In terms of popularity and the club they are bigger than Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said when asked by iDiski Times about facing Chiefs.
“They’ve got a bigger support base than Mamelodi Sundowns. But over the last 10 years Sundowns have been strong.
“Good team, but it’s an awkward team. You can’t describe them easy. They finished eighth on the log but they are in the Champions League final. You have to pay attention to them.
“Very strong team in terms of organisation, they don’t give away goals easy. They have not conceded a goal in their stadium. They don’t score a lot but they can defeat you. We have to respect them.”
The final will take place in Morocco on 17 July and it will be played over just one leg.
