Ahead of today’s CAF Champions League encounter between Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly, Pitso Mosimane has dismissed any notion that it is him versus the trio of Manqoba Mngithi, Rulani Mokwena and Steve Komphela.
Sundowns are currently leading the group on seven points, three points ahead of Ahly, Al-Hilal and Al-Merrikh, with the Hilal beating Merrikh on Friday to join them on four points.
When asked whether it was a battle of the coaches, with Mngqithi and Mokwena having been Mosimane’s assistants at Sundowns, while Komphela assisted Mosimane at Bafana Bafana, the Ahly coached dismissed the notion
“At our level, with our experience, it’s not outsmarting whoever, the game is way bigger than the four of us,” Mosimane said at the pre-match press conference.
“So it’s as a game for Al Ahly, and it’s a game for Mamelodi Sundowns, there’s nothing to do with us as coaches.
“We are just directing the teams on the game and supporting the things.
“So for me, where I am in my career, it’s nothing to me to be competing or trying to outsmart Manqoba, Rulani or Steve. I have respect for them.
“And I’m not in that space, I’m totally not in that space of out-smarting or trying to better.”
