Riveiro Explains Maswanganyi Form

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has explained that the collective structure and quality helps new signing Patrick Maswanganyi to shine at the club.

Maswanganyi scored his first official goal for the club in Pirates 3-0 second-leg win over Djabal Club on Friday, helping Pirates to progress to the second preliminary round of CAF Champions League 4-0 on aggregate.

The 25-year-old, who joined the club from SuperSport United, has been one of the shining lights at Pirates this season so far, and Riveiro explained that he is very happy with his contribution to the collective.

“For me, if I have to highlight something with the new players – when I say “new” I mean in this environment, playing for Pirates is not an easy thing,” Riveiro told journalists.

“It starts to show the level from the first game we played is something to highlight and I’m happy to see the progression of the guy.

“It’s important that he is surrounded by very good players, which makes things easy also for each and every individual in the team, we try to focus as much as we can on the collective.

“I understand that our collective structure is going to help each and every player to shine and to perform in the best level. It doesn’t matter who is playing, we try to do it in the same way with different details that every player as individual is going through on a certain day.

“So I’m very happy [with him].”

Pirates now turn their attention back to the DStv Premiership, where they will host Cape Town City at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday.
