Rulani Mokwena’s Pyramids beat Kenyan champions Gor Mahia and put one foot into the next round of the CAF Champions League.
Pyramids made a huge step towards the second round of the CAF Champions League preliminaries after a convincing 2-0 win away at Gor Mahia.
The 2024/25 CAFCL winners had a dream start at Nyoyo National Stadium, as they took the lead inside the fifth minute through Walid El Karti’s tap in after the Gor Mahia goalkeeper parried the ball to his feet following a great shot from Mostafa Fathi.
The hosts kept on pushing for the equaliser, leaving too much space behind. Mokwena’s side doubled the lead just before the half-time whistle via Mahmoud Saber.
In the second half, it was all about keeping a clean sheet for Mokwena’s side, and they played more compact while not pushing too much to go up front.
They managed to make it four wins in a row in all competitions and are also yet to concede under Mokwena. The 2024/25 CAFCL winners will take the 2-0 advantage with them to Egypt ahead of the second leg next weekend.
