Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies responded from their opening defeat in superb fashion thrashing newcomers Central Bank Of Ethiopia 4-0 in their second CAF Women’s Champions League tie at Stade Laarbi Zaouli on Wednesday afternoon.
Melinda Kgadiete scored a first half brace with Boitumelo Rabale and Lelona Daweti, who had her second goal disallowed by VAR in the first half, also contributing goals.
Sundowns came into the encounter needing to redeem themselves as defending champions after narrowly going down 1-0 to FC Masar in their Group B opener.
Coach Jerry Tshabalala made three changes to the starting line-up with experienced Andile Dlamini in goals ahead of Sedilame Bosija as well as Oratile Mokwena and Asanda Hadebe taking the places of Kholosa Biyana and Thato Letsoso on the bench. Letsoso had to come on early in the match against CBE as an early substitute for injured captain Bambanani Mbane after just 15 minutes of play.
Sundwons took the 4-0 lead into the break and returned unchanged at the start of the second half.
Banyana Ba Style missed a chance to make it 5-0 in the opening 10 minutes of the second period with Rabale denied by the base of the woodwork.
Five minutes after the hour mark, Daweti had a shot at goal, but missed the target.
There weren’t that many goalscoring opportunities created from both sides for the remainder of the game leaving the holders as victors from their first half efforts.
Sundowns’ last game is against Nigeria’s Edo Queens over the weekend where they need victory to qualify for the knockout phase.
