Al Ahly winger Percy Tau and Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams were named in the CAF Champions League Team of the Week.
Tau stared for his side in their 4-0 thumping over Conton Sport last week Friday, assisting two goals and scoring his side’s fourth, as he continues his fine revival in form.
Tau’s teammate Kahraba also made the Team of the Week after scoring a hat-trick against the Cameroonian side to keep Al Ahly’s chances of progressing to the knockout stages alive.
But if it wasn’t for Williams late penalty save in Sundowns’ 1-1 draw at Al Hilal, Al Ahly’s CAFCL campaign would’ve already come to an end.
The Masandawana goalkeeper denied Athar Eltahir from the spot in the 92nd minute otherwise they would not only have overtaken Sundowns in Group A, but also qualified for the quarter-finals at the expense of the competitions’ record champions.
Though Williams made a mistake, which led to Al Hilal’s 1-1 equaliser in the game, he made some decent saves in the first half already and his overall display earned him a spot in the team.
Meanwhile, Simba had four players in the Team of the Week after they thrashed Horoya 7-0 to book their spot in the quarter-finals.
