Tshabalala – We’re 90 Mins Away From History

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies coach Jerry Tshabalala has revealed what he will tell his players ahead of Friday’s final of the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League.

Banyana Ba Style are through to the final of Total Energies CAF Women’s Champions League after beating Malabo Kings 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out at Al Salam stadium on Monday after the game was tied at 0-0 following 120 minutes.

Tshabalala was happy for winning but not satisfied with the missed chances, as the game ended goalless in regulation time, and after 120 minutes.

“I don’t know whether I’m excited or nervous or what, but I’m happy that we are in the final,” he said after the match.

“I don’t know if I should say football is cruel, looking at our performance today compared to the previous games, the group stage games, we never played this good football.

“We didn’t look organized, but the results were there. But today we played good football, but the result was not there. We created a lot of chances today, we couldn’t convert.

“So I’m a little bit confused, a bit confused, but I’m happy for my girl’s fighting spirit, we showed that we can play with good football, we are a very good team.

“We have played great football today, I’m happy with the performance of the girls, even though we didn’t convert our chances, but I’m hoping that come the final we will convert the chances that we create.”

Tshabalala also highlighted how they are going to approach the game in the final, saying they are not going to sit back.

“I’m just going to tell them that they’ve got to give it to the field of play. We don’t have to sit back, we just got to go for it. You only got 90 minutes to make history,” he added.

“I know we’re playing against a very, very strong side. But I know my players when we play a strong side, they come to the party, come Friday we will leave it on the field of play.”

Sundowns Ladies will battle with Hasaacas Ladies of Ghana to the first-ever Total Energies CAF Women’s Champions League title at El Salam Stadium at 17:00 on Friday.
