Zwane – How I Can Help Sundowns In CAFCL

Mamelodi Sundowns captain Themba Zwane says he can help young players in the team handle pressure of playing in the CAF Champions League, even when not on the pitch.

Zwane is close to a return to action following a long layoff from an Achilles injury he sustained on international duty with Bafana-Bafana, during the 2025 Africa Cup Of nations (AFCON) qualifier against Congo Brazzaville last October.

Though the midfielder has started training, he won’t feature in the side’s CAF Champions League quarter-final clash with ES Tunis on Tuesday afternoon, but he is confident he can still help the team.

“I can help them handle the pressure by obviously talking to them,” Zwane told CAF Media.

“And share the experience that I have and share the challenges that I faced before and yeah try to motivate them and push them.

“What makes them [ES Tunis] difficult to play against is because they have experience in the Champions League they have quality players, and they have a good technical team.

“I mean they are professional, but I can I say the same with us. I mean we are also a good team we have good players.”

Sundowns have won the cup once in 2016 and the 35-year-old was also bold in his admission about wanting to win it again saying it’s the right time and it will mean a lot to the team and him personally.

“I’d say this game means a lot because the goal this season is to win the Champions League,” added Zwane.

“It’s not something that we are not hiding. We just put it there that we want to win the Champions League.

“Over these years we have been pushing ourselves I think this year is the right time to win it and push ourselves. I think we are ready for it.

“To win it again it will mean a lot to me. Obviously it’s not rare that you get to win the Champions League twice and for me it will mean a lot.

“Obviously as a player I want to make history, create history and be part of the history of the team.”
