Banking On Experience – Truter & Vila

Sekhukhune United head coach Brando Truter and striker Sibusiso ‘Vila’ Vilakazi were happy that everything went according to plan against St Eloi Lupopo in the CAF Confederations second preliminary round first leg win in Polokwane this past weekend and they are unfazed with what will possibly happen in the second leg.

The Limpopo side won 3-1 in their first time out in the CAF inter-club competition, taking a two-goal cushion to the second leg in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The coach knows the conditions will be tougher for his charges away from home, however he will bank on the experience of his international players to be able to handle everything.

“I think the hostility in Kinshasa everybody knows about it but if you look at the team as well we have a lot of experienced players in terms of internationals” said Truter.

“I can mention Badra, Eddie Gyimah, Cardoso, Vila, Rally Bwalya, Mokotjo and Ohizu. So there is a lot of experience and maturity and players who have played at this level and have faced such hostility.

“So it’s nothing to worry about and so from the squad perspective this week, the playing personnel they will surely advice the younger players and the other players who haven’t been there on how to deal with the situation.”

Vilakazi, who has played at this level before, was stand-in captain against Lupopo and is also not worried at all about the away leg, saying Ba Bina Noko can even win the away fans if they perform well in DRC.

“Having to go to Kinshasa, the experience of the place on its own being hostile I think for me and the guys it’s just to go out there and enjoy ourselves,” he added.

“We have two goals within the bag so we protect that but more than anything try to make that crowd be on your side more than anything.

“It’s hostile but it’s nice trust me, it’s very nice I’ve been there a couple of times. It’s very nice.

“We just have to enjoy the game because if you score one or two goals that crowd decides to be on your side. So it’s going to be nice.”
