Steve Barker was pleased by the performance of his Stellenbosch FC side after hammering Equatorial Guinea side 15 de Agosto and marched on to the CAF Confederation Cup group stages.
After a goalless draw away from home, Stellenbosch FC knew they needed a win on home soil for the return leg and score draw would knock them out.

They started the game as it was expected on high note. Bradly Mojela won the penalty which Thato Khiba converted. Sanele Barns made it 2-0 just after halftime. Andre de Jong then added Stellies’ third before the visitors pulled one back. Chumani Butsaka had the last say completing the 4-1 rout.
“I think it was a solid performance from us. I think all around it was clear to see that, we were the better team and in control of a majority of the match,” Barker told the media.
“I thought we’re a bit unlucky not to get an earlier sort of goal. You know, just created some chances hit the post a couple of times.
“So going in only 1-0 at half-time, I thought we probably needed to have gotten another goal advantage, because what we didn’t want to do is go into second half and then the game drags on at 1-0, and then obviously a score draw, means that we don’t qualify.
“So, the message at half-time was that we can’t afford not to go for the second goal and hopefully get a third.
“We didn’t want to be in a situation where something could happen and then we have to be reactive. So, the message was to go out second half, continue playing, continue asking questions.
Barker On Capitalising On A Tiring De Agosto
“We knew that they would start tiring and they would have to come out at us to try and get back in the game. And then that was hopefully the opportunity to then bury the game, which we did. We started the second half well, got the 3-0. It was pretty comfortable.
“Obviously, you don’t want to be conceding sloppy goals, clean sheets always something that we want to be keeping. So, it was a bit disappointing to concede at three one, but you know, we got the fourth and the game was over.
“Yeah, solid performance all round. Nice to be scoring goals again, and yes, looking forward to the group stages.”
