Kaizer Chiefs legend Rudolf Gardner Seale has complemented Amakhosi Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr for putting a competitive team together, saying it’s like the current side has “five Doctor Khumalos” and “six John ‘Shoes’ Moshoeus”.
Seale played for Amakhosi in the 1980s and 90s and was part of the side that played in the African Cup of Champions Clubs in 1993 – Chiefs’ first foray into African football after South Africa’s readmission.
The former left-back says he is impressed with what Kaizer Jr. has done as a Sporting Director in terms of how he has put together a strong team to compete in Africa after they ended their 10-year trophy drought.
“They are all very talented. I look at the team, and it is like they have five Doctors and six Shoes,” Seale told iDiski Times.
“This kid, Kaizer Junior, has done a remarkable job in putting the team together. He has provided these boys a stage on which to sing. Not everyone gets the kind of stage they have because it is not everyone who gets to play for Chiefs.
“They have the jersey, and the part is there for them to shine. And there are few better places to shine than on the continental stage against the giants of the African game like Zamalek.”
Chiefs started their African campaign with a 2-1 defeat at Al-Masry before holding Zamalek to a 1-1 draw. They will now face ZESCO United twice and will need to collect as many points as possible to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage alive.
Amakhosi return to action on 20 January 2026, when they will face Golden Arrows, before their back-to-back clashes with ZESCO on 25 January and 1 February.
