Kaizer Chiefs secured a 1-0 win over ZESCO United to climb into second place in their CAF Confederations Cup group after four matches.
Just like in the first leg, Chiefs opened the scoring early in the game, with Glody Lilepo opening the scoring with a powerful shot after Amakhosi had won back possession and quickly found the DR Congo striker.
The visitors had a big chance to equalize via a strong header from Hiver in the 30th minute but Brandon Petersen denied the striker with a superb save.
Flavio Da Silva should’ve made a 2-0 for Chiefs after 38 minutes after a superb assist by Lilepo, but his shot from the edge of the box sailed over the bar.
Chiefs almost made it two on the brink of half-time but a free-kick by Mfundo Vilakazi only hit the post.
The home side remained in control throughout the second half without creating too many scoring opportunities, however, kept ZESCO from threatening Petersen’s goal.
There were big cheers from the stands when Mduduzi Shabalala got introduced after 59 minutes for Vilakazi, making his 100th appearance for the Glamour Boys.
Leonard Mulenga found a bit of space after 77 minutes and tested Petersen with a powerful shot from outside the box but Petersen was again up to the task, pushing the ball over the bar.
Chiefs also had a great chance to add onto the score but a shot by Lebohang Maboe only rattled the crossbar in the 89th minute.
In the end, it was Chiefs’ fourth successive 1-0 victory in 2026, as they moved to seven points in Group D, level with leaders Al Masry and two ahead of Zamalek.
While the two Egyptian giants will meet each other later tonight, Chiefs will host Al Masry at Peter Mokaba Stadium next weekend.
