Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando Da Cruz has revealed why goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner missed the CAF Confederation Cup clash against Red Arrows.

Amakhosi were eliminated from the competition after losing in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 aggregate draw.

Bruce Bvuma started in goal for the second leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday evening, making his first appearance of the season.

Leaner had been enjoying regular game time since first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen suffered an injury.

However, Da Cruz explained that Leaner also picked up an injury during Thursday’s training session as Chiefs prepared for their crucial encounter against Red Arrows.

“Yesterday in the matchday minus one, Renaldo was injured in his finger,” said Da Cruz.

“So, he couldn’t play and we said yesterday, we haven’t been lucky with injuries.

“When you see our team today, we have five players injured, and when you look at the performance of the team, it’s very positive.”
