Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has spoken about his side’s hectic schedule saying he is grateful they have a big squad to make things a little easier.
Youssef revealed Amakhosi will stay a bit in Ndola, Zambia after defeating Zesco United 1-0 in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup for recovery before traveling back to South Africa.
The weekend result saw the Nedbank Cup champions give themselves a fighting chance at qualifying for the knockout stage as they sit in third place with four points in three matches, three points from leaders Al Masry.
This week, they take on Marumo Gallants away which will be followed by back-to-back fixtures including in the Confed Cup and the start of their Ke Yona Cup defense.
Youssef says staying behind will help his side get a bit of a rest for when they return to travel to Bloemfontein.
“I have to say thank you to the board that’s allowed for us to make recovery here,” said Youssef.
“Today we will stay here in Ndola, tomorrow morning [Monday] we’ll have a recovery session before we fly back to Johannesburg. Tomorrow it will be rest for the team and after tomorrow just a training session and then we’ll travel to Bloemfontein.
“We know this month is so busy for us, every two days or three days we have a game. We’ll play 11 games in 40 days, so we need all the squad.
“Thank God we have a big squad so we can also make rotations, and we can allow the other players to take a rest.”
