Orlando Pirates wingers Gabadinho Mhango and Vincent Pule are among the players who were not named in the match day squad to face RS Berkane in the CAF Confederation Cup final.
Mhango’s role at the Buccaneers has been questioned for large parts of the season after he starred for Malawi at the African Cup of Nations.
However, he’s only made 10 appearances for the Sea Robbers all season, leaving many wondering why he is not playing more often. He did, however, have his moment to shine when he scored one of the important penalties in the quarter-final win over Simba SC.
Meanwhile, Pule did only return recently after recovering from a serious injury, coming off the bench in the 1-0 second-leg loss to Al Ahli Tripoli in the semi-final.
Many thought he’d be able to make the squad but was seemingly not (match-)fit enough to make the selection. Below are more names who didn’t make Pirates’ 18-man match day squad:
- James Monyane
- Gabadinho Mango
- Vincent Pule
- Collins Makgaka
- Nthuthuko Mabaso
- Wayde Jooste
- Bongani Sam
- Tebogo Tlolane
- Zakhele Lepasa
- Paseka Mako (injured)
- Wayne Sandilands
