Stellies Stun CAFCC Champions Zamalek

Stellenbosch FC stunned Egyptian giants Zamalek to advance to the CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals.

Following a goalless draw in South Africa a week ago, Stellenbosch came into the game understanding that a draw of goals would send them through to the next round.

The Cape Winelands side stood firm against Zamalek, remained solid ay the back throughout the game. The White Knights couldn’t break through Stellies defence with the first half ending in goalless despite Zamalek being more dominant.

Nothing changed in the second half, as Zamalek continued to put pressure on Stellenbosch hoping to get the important goal.

But it was Steve Barker side who managed to get the breakthrough in the 79th minute when Sihle Nduli opened the scoring.

Zamalek, who now needed two goals to turn the tie around, kept on putting pressure but Sage Stephens kept Stellies ahead in the game with a brilliant save with five minutes remaining.

The Cape Winelands side advanced to CAF Confederation Cup semi-finals where they will face now Fadlu Davids’ Simba SC
