Youssef On Vilakazi Position At Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef believes that youngster Mfundo Vilakazi is versatile and can play as a winger and playmaker as well.

The South African junior international has enjoyed more game-time this season under the guidance of Youssef and co-coach Cedric Kaze at Naturena including in the CAF Confederation Cup where he has an assist in four matches.

There have been debates on Vilakazi’s most suited role in the team and, Youssef explained that the 20-year-old like most of his teammates can handle most roles in attack including being a number 10.

“Mfundo Vilakazi can play both positions, he can play as a winger and he can play as a playmaker,” said Youssef.

“He is one of the best players for us. I think let’s take it all the players, we can’t only discuss about an individual player. It can be Vilakazi, it can be [Mduduzi] Shabalala it can be [Gaston] Sirino the playmaker and winger.

“It can be [Glody] Lilepo, it can be [Pule] Mmodi. I think all the players are ready to play and for us as technical staff is to choose the right squad for the game.”

Vilakazi has not enjoyed regular game-time after his dip in form for the Glamour Boys in the current campaign.

He has made 10 appearances in the Betway Premiership with a single goal to his name.

Against Zamalek in their last CAF Confederation Cup match, ‘Obrigado’ played just nine minutes as they were eliminated with only the league to fight for this season.
