Zesco Coach – Chiefs Are Beatable

Zesco United coach Mathews Ndhlovu has made a bold statement about Kaizer Chiefs following his side’s back-to-back defeats against the Soweto giants.

Chiefs first edged Zesco United 1–0 away from home in Ndola, Zambia, during their CAF Confederation Cup group-stage encounter last weekend.

The two sides then faced each other again in the return fixture on Sunday afternoon at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, where Amakhosi secured another narrow 1–0 victory.

Despite the losses, Ndhlovu believes that while the Phefeni Glamour Boys are a strong and well-organised team, they are not invincible and can be beaten if opponents take advantage of the chances they create.

He added that one of the key lessons Zesco took from playing Amakhosi is the importance of game management—stressing that once you score, you must protect your lead and see the match through to the final whistle.

“Yes, Chiefs are beatable, especially when you utilise your chances,” said Ndhlovu.

“But if you don’t score, Kaizer Chiefs will over-run you. We were slightly careless at the back when we started the game in Ndola, they utilised their chances and scored.

“The best way to defend is about how you manage the game. Those are the positives which we have learnt from Kaizer Chiefs, that if they score, they are capable of managing the game.

“For us now, we will make sure that we’re displaying that at the back as well as making sure we utilise the chances we create.”
