Magesi FC captain and goalkeeper Elvis Chipezeze has made a strong claim for his side ahead of the Carling Knockout Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns this coming weekend in Bloemfontein.
The new Betway Premiership side has had a historic run in the cup eliminating seasoned clubs such as Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy and Richards Bay on their way to the final. Chipezeze spoke to iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 181 of the newspaper where he expressed that he knows the quality his inexperienced side is coming against in Sundowns.
Tough as the encounter looks on appear for the Limpopo side, the 34 year old year old says it would mean the world if they were triumphant which is why Magesi won’t roll over and hand the Cup over to the Brazilians.
“As much as we are excited, remember, there is a game that needs to be played,” Chipezeze told iDiski Times.
“We cannot be over-excited. We just want to make sure that we give it our all. This means a lot to our chairman, to our supporters and the families. We know that we are still a club that is growing and we are trying to make a mark in South Africa. I know it’s going to take time but with the blessing of God we’re now in the final of the Carling Cup.
“We have already made history for ourselves. So we just smile, go there, try to compete like any other team and everything will take care of itself because you can’t just say we’re going there to make the numbers. We are also here to compete so we’re just going to go out there and try to work harder and put a smile on our supporters’ faces, especially those who are going to travel. That’s a long trip from Limpopo to Bloemfontein”.
