Khanye Admits Manqoba U-Turn

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye says in the same manner that he criticised Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Manqoba Mngqithi, he compliments the coach when he has done well.

This is after Sundowns’ 5-0 demolition of Golden Arrows in the last 16 round of the Carling Knockout Cup at the weekend as they set-up a meeting with Kaizer Chiefs in the quarter-finals.

Khanye was one of Mngqithi’s critics when he took over the hot seat at Chloorkop after Rulani Mokoena’s departure, with the former Chiefs man saying the coach deserves his flowers especially for how his side played and scored against Arrows, adding that Mngqithi has worked on his players’ mentality and there is identity in their game.

“I have to complement Manqoba Mngqithi,” said Khanye on iDiski TV.

“I have criticised him before. I was critical of Manqoba, but I think he has dealt with the players’ mind-set.

“There is speed up front at Sundowns now. Once Sundowns gets in your half there is quick movement, and they will finish you. You hardly see these guys balloon the ball because they are clinical with passes and movement on the ball.

“Truly speaking I’m very pleased with how Sundowns is playing, they are playing with identity. If you check the goals, they have scored maybe in the last 10 matches they scored the same way and the way they play I think it’s also determined by the players they have signed.”
