Khune Coy To Talk Chiefs Suspension

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune did not want to comment about his suspension by his club after his Man of the Match performance with the PSL All Star side against Stellenbosch FC at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

The All Star side coached by Orlando Pirates mentor Jose Riveiro won 2-1 over the 10-man Carling Knockout Cup champions in Khune’s first competitive match since his suspension from football activities by Chiefs in early December 2023. The suspension followed allegations that the 36-year-old arrived at training under the influence of alcohol.

The Carling Black Label Cup organisers explained to iDiski Times last week ahead of the match that the suspension was only linked to his club.

After his Man of the Match performance, the former Bafana Bafana international was asked what happens next with regards to his suspension with the cup tie now done but he said it wasn’t the right platform to address the matter.

“I think I was voted to come to represent All Stars today I honoured my call-up,” he replied to an iDiski Times question.

“I played I enjoyed myself and I don’t think this is the right platform to discuss club issues or club matters.

“So with all due respect can I speak about the Carling and the All Star team in today’s press conference.”
