New AmaZulu FC goalkeeper Richard Ofori highly praised Stellenbosch FC goalkeeper Sage Stephens ahead of their Carling Knockout last 16 tie tonight.
It’s been close to a month since Usuthu announced the signing of Ofori, who was a free agent after leaving Orlando Pirates at the end of June. The Ghanaian international is yet to make his debut for AmaZulu.
Ofori has close to 10 years of Premier Soccer League experience, he has seen the growth of some players in the country and Stellies goalminder Stephens is one of those players.
The former Maritzburg United shot-stopper highly praised Stephens stating that he must be given the respect he deserves. Last season, Stephens had third-most clean sheets in the league and delivered the trophy for the Cape Winelands side.
“Stephens is doing well where he is in his career. I think last season was one of his best seasons throughout his career,” Ofori said.

“But I know he is one of the best, although most of the time he will be in some space that maybe you have not recognised the way you are supposed to be.
“I know he is a very good goalkeeper and this season he is doing well, he is showing it since last season.
“We must support him and give him what he deserves but you know one thing about football when the team is doing well, everything usually goes well for the players so it’s not something new.
“The team is doing well; they are fighting so everything will go well we just need to support them.”
